A 29 word quotation penned on 3-3/8 inch high by 5-3/8 inch wide card stock. "... a truly sufficing poem, uttered from the height or from the depth of human speech, would be to the region we inhabit what the universe might be to God". Signed "Babette Deutsch". The card is identified on the verso in an unknown hand as "Babette Deutsch, poet / N.Y. 7.IV.1964". Near fine. The American poet, critic, translator and novelist Babette Deutsch (1895-1982) published poems in "The North American Review" and the "New Republic" when still a student at Barnard College.
