Description: Antique photographs of a Möller Type slide, signed G.J. Johnson Characteristics: Two antique cardboards with microphotographs of a Möller 100-type slide (or sections of a 400-type slide), one with one photograph (signed ‘Moller’s Diatom Platte by G.J. Johnson.’), one with two photographs. Dimensions of cardboards: 24 by 32 cm, and 21.5 by 29 cm – Some moderate foxing, see images for condition. The renowned Möller ’Typen-Platte’ slides – featuring arrangements of either 100 or 400 diatoms – are among the most coveted type slides for collectors. While similar-quality rectilinear diatom arrangements were later produced by Eduard Thum, it was J.D. Möller (1844-1907) who pioneered these ’Novelty’ slides, with one example described in the 1868 issue of the Quekett Microscopical Club Journal as the “most exquisite specimen of microscopic skill, and better still, it forms a most useful typical collection of diatomaceae”. If these microscope slides are rare, contemporary microphotographs of these works of art are even rarer on the market. About us: We collect historic collectibles previously owned by famous collectors and/or institutions, and which represent milestones in the history of collecting. We consider all domains of collecting, from naturalia (minerals, meteorites, fossils, shells, etc.) to artificialia (coins, stamps, sport memorabilia, vintage toys, etc.). We consider objects with impressive pedigrees as well as rare collection catalogues and other unique documents. We have written articles on the history of collecting in various magazines and journals, including Meteorite, Colligo and Archives of Natural History. We make some of our specimens and documents available to other collectors from time to time.
