About the author: Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktisiddhanta Swami Prabhupada, the translator of this edition of Bhagavad Gita was born in Kolkatta in 1896. A spiritual teacher of the Gaudiya Vaishnava school, Swami Prabhupada renounced the world in 1959 and went onto found the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).
