Metal pole and protecter between lightbulb and shade. Comes with 40W bulb. The round plastic shade some damage. I believe someone put in a higher wattage bulb and it got too hot. Shade adjusts up and down by the metal knob. Please see photos for the Misshapen shade. Price is less then half what others are asking for this same model, due to the issues with the shade.
