With the new for 2022 generation Formula 1 cars taking shape and with testing at an end, McLaren were feeling mildly confident of building on their very solid 2021 season, a year that saw them return to winning ways for the first time since 2012. With the MCL36 not suffering as much from the porpoising phenomenon caused by the new ground effect style aerodynamics aimed at improving on track action and overtaking, all signs seemed to point to a decent start to 2022. Instead, the team suffered an almost total disaster at the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix, with the car needing to use makeshift brakes to solve the overheating issues from the second test that took place a week prior, as well as the MCL36 lacking aerodynamic and mechanical grip. Lando Norris qualified a lowly 13th, and toiled through an even worse race day, finishing a miserable 15th place and behind his struggling teammate Daniel Ricciardo, with only Nicholas Latifi and Nico Hulkenberg preventing them from finishing last of the classified runners, after the two Red Bull RB18s of Sergio Perez and reigning World Champion Max Verstappen suffering late race retirements. Lando's season steadily improved since that race, although not by enough to challenge for a top three finish in the constructors championship like the year before. A 3rd place at the 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix would be the only podium finish and highlight of the season, but Lando managed to finish in the points consistently in 17 of the 22 races held. He scored 122 of the McLaren team's 159 points to help them finish fifth in the constructors standings, while Lando himself finished seventh in the drivers championship. On 5th May 2024, Lando claimed his maiden F1 victory, beating Max Verstappen to the win at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix. The model features Lando's colourful McLaren-Mercedes MCL36 as it raced at the season-opening 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix. It is a CK Modelcars and Paddock Legends edition exclusive to both German model retailers and is a limited edition of 222 pieces worldwide. It also comes with the full VUSE vape branding the team ran with at that race, applied by myself due to Minichamps' licensing agreement with McLaren to not replicate the sponsor on the model or supply a decal sheet.
