The TASCAM Portastudio was the world's first four-track recorder based on a standard compact audio cassette tape. This model 464 is one of the most impressive decks from Tascam, with considerably better build quality and reliability than the 424MKIII. In fact, we refuse to sell either the 424 MKI or MKIII, as the quality on those decks were so bad that we are not comfortable selling them to our customers! Instead we recommend this 464, or the 424 MKII, as far superior alternatives.The term Portastudio is exclusive to Teac, however it is generally used to describe all self-contained cassette-based multi-track recorders dedicated to music production. We are very picky about condition and any unit must meet several requirements before we will call a deck Mint, let alone New. So what puts the "y" in Minty? After a close inspection, we found sharp corners to the cabinet, knobs & feet, just some typical base scuffs and a few tiny scratches to the front edge prevented us from calling this beauty fully "Mint!" All the original knobs & feet are present & complete and there is minimal scuffing to the plexis. The included RC-30P Punch-in Pedal is also in excellent condition, as is the manual which is still in the original plastic! All comes in the pictured generic box with custom Styrofoam packing. Please inspect all the pictures thoroughly for actual condition. Service:So why refurbish a deck with such little use? After years of experience evaluating this equipment, we are keenly aware that many of these vintage items that have gone unused for decades is for a good reason. Often it was returned due to a flaw, anything from a scuff to not working at all! This is why, whether or not it is showing symptoms, the C-gear is always replaced with a real, injection-molded gear, not made on a 3-D printer in someone's basement.
