ROBERT "WOLFMAN JACK" SMITH - AUTOGRAPHED SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH - HFSID 199987 WOLFMAN JACK Pioneer rock 'n roll disc jockey. Photograph signed: "Wolfman/Jack". B/w, 8x10. WOLFMAN JACK (1938-1995), born Robert Smith, rose to prominence from 1958-1966, playing the latest rock 'n roll on a Mexican radio station. XERF-AM broadcasted at 250,000 watts, five times the power allowed on any U.S. station at the time. His wolf howls, yips, gravelly voice with the blues and hillbilly records he spun, blanketed much of the U.S. all night. Though already well known, it wasn't until he played himself in the 1973 movie American Graffiti that America saw the face that went with the voice. Many early listeners assumed he was Black. The Wolfman's name came from a trend of the 1950s, when disc jockeys took nicknames such as Moondog or Hound Dog. He enjoyed horror movies, so he took the name Wolfman. Image slightly grainy. Fine condition. See more material from these signers: ROBERT SMITH See more listings in our ACTORS & ACTRESSES (13,291) category. Please note that this is an authentically signed item.
