Description: THANKS FOR CHECKING OUT MY AUCTION. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION AND MY POLICIES BEFORE PLACING YOUR BID. Check out my other items!Be sure to add me to your favorites list! This listing is for an interesting Bb tenor saxophone mouthpiece. It has an odd collection of markings, which are all a bit faint. It is stamped "Rocky Giglio by" in one font, and below that "J.J. Babbitt" in another font. One gets the feeling that the Rocky name was added to a stock Babbitt blank. In addition to that I can just barely see the word "Edge" under the other marking. It looks like it was buffed out, but not quite completely. This is obviously the remnants of a "Tone Edge" stamp, a reference to the Otto Link model produced by Babbitt. There is also an "S" on the shank that looks almost painted on by hand. Lastly, it is stamped 7 in small font on the side, and "USA" on the underside of the shank. I had never heard of Rocky Giglio before, but a quick Google search revealed that in addition to being an accomplished player he had a long career as management with Conn, Armstrong, and finally Babbitt. He actually just recently passed away at the age of 86. Since I've never seen one of these before, I'm guessing they were produced in limited numbers, or maybe it was just a prototype. I'm guessing it is essentially a 'signature series' version of the Otto Link Tone Edge. The tip opening measures .095", so more like a 6* than a 7 (as marked). It has deeply scooped inner walls and a large round chamber. This mouthpiece is in overall good condition, but I think it could benefit from some work by a good re-facer. The tip is a bit lopsided, and there is widening of the side rails just behind the tip. It also has obvious file marks on the baffle. I'm not sure if it was already worked on post-production, or if it came from the factory this way (which is quite possible if it was a prototype). That being said, the facing is perfectly smooth. There are no tooth indentations. The rubber is faded/discolored. It has been cleaned/sanitized. This mouthpiece does play as is, but it is a bit stuffy/tubby sounding. Then again, that is par for the course for modern Otto Link/Babbitt products. This could be a diamond in the rough that just needs a good facing applied. It might well be a collector's item as I've never seen another with Rocky's name. I really don't know to be honest. I priced it high for that reason, but I'm very open to offers. Please feel free to message me with any questions. Thanks again for looking! MWlot
